grid is an enhancement to the traditional MODFLOW grid, in that any cell can be divided into four equal-sized cells. It is called a “layered” quadtree grid because it has the same number of layers as theWilliam (Bill) Moggridge (b. 1943), a British industrial and interaction designer, the current director of the Smithsonian Institution’s Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum in New York, is known as a pioneer of interaction design and one of the first people to integrate human factors into the design of software and hardware, as well as the designer of GRiD Compass 1100, the first commercial laptop designed the computer in 1979, but the first GRiD Compass (the computer was announced in marketing materials as Model 1100, but it did not exist, the released machine was the Model 1101) was released in April 1982, at a price 8150 USD. The manufacturer was GRiD Systems Corporation, Mountain View, with the Sharp PC-5000 and Gavilan SC computers, released in 1983, the GRiD Compass established much of the basic design of subsequent laptop computers, although the laptop concept itself owed much to the Dynabook project of Alan design of GRiD Compass (see the lower image) used a clamshell-style die-cast case (where the screen folds flat to the rest of the computer when closed), which was made from a magnesium-alloy (GRiD had the patent on the clamshell idea). The suite included also several applications: GRiDManager (communication and utility functions), GRiDPrint (control format and appearance of text files), GRiDPlan (electronic worksheets), GRiDFile (database utilities), GRiDPlot (converts data to graphs), GRiDBASIC (high-level programming language), and GRiDWrite (full-screen text editor).GRiD Compass 1101 with opened case (source: three bubble memory modules are seen on upper-right corner of the developed for business executives (who else can afford a personal computer for 8–10000 USD at that time?), GRiD Compasses were also used by the government, military in the field (naval vessels, attached to paratroopers, etc.), and by NASA on the Space Shuttles during the 1980’s. It’s even believed that the US President’s nuclear football at one time included a GRiD portable Osborne 1 computer sold at around the same time as the Compass (in the beginning of 1980s), although lacked the Compass’s refinement and portable size, was more cheap and more popular device, moreover it ran the popular CP/M operating Compass in a Space Shuttle in 1985 (source:Grid Compass Computer 1109 taką nazwę nosił pierwszy komercyjny laptop. GRiD Compass 1101. The exact definition of a laptop varies, but the first modern clamshell laptop was designed by Bill Moggridge in 1979. It wasn't until 1982 that the GRiD Compass 1101 made it to market, though. Made from magnesium alloy and sporting a 6-in. screen with 320x240 resolution, the 1101 carried a 1982 starting price of $8,150.
1979 - William Moggridge of Grid Systems Corporation created the first functioning portable computer - Grid Compass Computer 1109 (find a picture) • 1109 had 340 KB memory, a die-cast magnesium case and a folding electroluminescent graphics display screen. • NASA bought 1109s at $800 for the space program.

When the first 25 working prototypes of the GRiD Compass Computer were ready, I took one home and started using it. I soon realised that the physical design that I had spent so much time on was insignificant when compared to the design of the operating system and the interactive software.
William Moggridge (1943) designed the computer, but the first GRiD Compass (the computer was announced as Model 1100, but this model did not exist, the released machine was the Model 1101) was released in April 1982, at a whopping price of USD $8150. The folding clamshell design was patented by GRiD Systems and later became popular in laptop
No, actually I ran across the GRiD Compass on Wikipedia while looking at photos of the Space Shuttle from the 80s (or maybe it was the laptop computer article), and being that wikipedia is one of those rabbit hole websites where you can be reading one thing and hours later be on an entirely different subject, I read about the GRiD Compass and other early 80s portable computers like the Osborne 1.Re: FA: Vintage GRiD Compass 1101 Laptop Computer - Rare - N Yeah great.. Forgotten Tech The British designer of the world's first laptop has pipped Vivienne Westwood to win the 2010 Prince Philip Designer prize.. Bill Moggridge was commissioned by John Ellenby, the founder of a Silicon Valley start-up called GRiD, to design a powerful computer with an electronic display.

This chapter introduces end-to-end learning that can infer the control value of the vehicle directly from the input image as the use of deep learning for autonomous driving, and describes visual explanation of judgment grounds that is the problem of deep learning models and future challenges. 4.1.

Can't find a thing on the 'net about this one. Whether that makes it rare or just junk, I don't know. Screen works, bubble memory cassette still contains remnants of old unsubmitted newspaper articles. Cups on top are for acoustic coupler. The keyboard can be stored in the tray below the screen. See the Grid Compass Computer in my collection for another example of a machine with bubble memory W7LG.
